It’s time to sip and tell. Although our love affair with good coffee is no secret, we thought we would share something. We really enjoy the challenge of trying to use every last bit of something. So long after our coffees have been enjoyed, we share the grounds with our customers to benefit the environment.

We estimate that we serve over 1.7 million cups of coffee per year throughout our catering operations!

It is great to know that something that may have ended up in the trash is being recycled and put to good use by our customers instead.

Here are three simple things you can do with your coffee grounds:

Compost

Composting is so easy to do and coffee grounds add beneficial nitrogen to your compost pile, as well as magnesium and potassium. Coffee grounds are considered green matter for compost and should not make up more than 25% of your pile. If you are just adding grounds from your personal consumption you shouldn’t have to worry about adding too much.

Exfoliate

Check out the internet for recipes for making natural body scrubs using coffee grounds. As well as reducing cellulite, massaging and exfoliating can benefit skin by stimulating blood/lymph flow and, apparently, the caffeine in the coffee has a tightening effect.

Pest Repellent

Sprinkle used coffee grounds around your plants to protect them against destructive garden pests like ants, snails, and slugs. It has even been said that old grounds mixed with dried orange peel will keep away some small mammals like cats at bay!
