Each month we bring a different team member to the table to chat about their role, food and Wilson Vale. This month we chatted to Rose, one of our aspiring Trainee Chefs, who has been shortlisted as a finalist for the Foodservice Cateys Rising Star Award!
What does your job involve?
I’m a trainee chef with Wilson Vale based at the MAKE UK Hub. My role is quite varied, each day is different. My job involves a range of tasks, from cooking breakfast for the apprentices and staff at MAKE UK, to baking cakes (which I love!), making coffee and serving food. I also make sure our workspaces remain clean and tidy and use the till.
What do you love about your job?
I love seeing everyone enjoy our food, chatting and getting to know the customers and seeing them happy with the service that they receive.
What does working at Wilson Vale mean to you?
It means a lot to me to be able to work at Wilson Vale as the team is amazing and the variation of my role is great – there’s always so much for me to learn within the hospitality and catering business that I’ll benefit from long into my future career.
What’s your favourite food?
Now this is an easy one, chocolate! Always!
What ingredient can you not live without?
This is a harder question… but I would have to say sugar as I love baking and sweet treats!
Tell us an interesting fact about yourself that not many people know…
Outside of the kitchen I love Ballroom and Latin dancing. I danced for 13 years during which time I proudly
received some great certificates and trophies.
Tell us a top tip or trick of the trade?
With my sweet tooth, this has got to be a baking tip! When cookies are just starting to brown on the outside – that’s when you should take them out of the oven if you want a lovely soft centre.
