Wayne, part of Wilson Vale’s Business Development Team, had been planning a new cycling challenge for some time. No stranger to long bike rides, he decided to push himself further by taking on an epic 112-mile overnight route, finishing on the Suffolk coast at sunrise.
Not content with undertaking this feat as a personal challenge, Wayne heaped on the pressure by using it as a fundraising opportunity. He chose Natasha’s Foundation, a food allergy charity that Wilson Vale has committed to supporting through a three-year funding programme that helps fund its vital research.
Natasha’s Foundation is one of the only allergy charities dedicated to medical research. It aims to understand what is causing the dramatic rise in allergic disease, and to develop ways to prevent, treat and ultimately eradicate it, creating a world that is safe for everyone.
After nine and a half hours in the saddle, Wayne reached Dunwich Beach in Suffolk at 5:10am, just in time to see the sunrise. We were amazed not only by Wayne taking on and smashing this physical feat of endurance, but also by his motivation to do good and support Natasha’s Foundation, which is nothing short of inspiring.
“It was certainly one of the toughest things I’ve ever done. The hardest part wasn’t just the relentless hills or the fact that my whole body was aching by the end, it was trying to stay focused while flying down steep country roads in the middle of the night with no sleep. That tested me as much mentally as it did physically.
“During some of the toughest moments through the night, knowing so many people were behind me genuinely helped me keep turning the pedals.
“Working in hospitality, food allergies affect all of us, and we see first-hand just how important awareness, education and research are. Knowing that the money raised will help make a difference for people living with food allergies made every hill and every mile worthwhile.”
