We are over the moon to see our talented Chef Manager, Jade Douglas, shortlisted as a top ten finalist for the Association of Catering Excellence (ACE) Robyns Award!
Those of you who know Jade are well aware of her remarkable culinary career, her unwavering commitment to supporting others and passion for great food. Her drive to help others, both inside and outside of the workplace, is truly inspirational.
Jade’s interest in food began early, leading her to request and be a part of NVQ 2/3 food production sessions at just 14. Her passion for food and early dedication to the industry earned her the ‘Young Chef of the Year’ award in 2009 at college and she was a National Junior Chef finalist where she finished 4th out of 120 schools and colleges nationwide.
Jade’s extensive work history spans Michelin-starred and high-end restaurants, such as Purnell’s, Pearl Restaurant & Bar and York & Albany, where she honed her technical skills. Under the mentorship of celebrated chefs like Jun Tanaka, Angela Hartnett and Steven Walpole, she gained invaluable inspiration. She has worked with TV chefs and renown bakers as well as persuading her local council to conduct a ten-week culinary course for teenagers with learning difficulties. Her involvement with special educational needs students shows her dedication to using food as a medium for positive impact.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, Jade demonstrated her innovative spirit and generosity by raffling off her cooking skills, raising £5,000 in support of the NHS. This act of charity highlights her willingness to use her talents for a greater cause.
At Wilson Vale, Jade’s commitment to growth and developing others has continued. She completed the Craft Works Sous Chef Level 3 Training course and mentors her team daily in craft skills. Her rise from Chef de Partie to Sous Chef and then Chef Manager highlights her leadership, continuous thirst for learning, adaptability, and an unwavering passion for culinary excellence.
Mark Farrant, Commercial Manager, commented; “Jade is an absolute superstar. We live in an industry where things can change the day before and we are fortunate to work with Jade, who is agile, thinks outside the box and will never compromise on quality. Our day-to-day operations benefit from her calmness and experience, which gives time back to allow us to thrive and grow.”
In 2024, Jade and her team won the Wilson Vale Innovation Award, a testament to her continuous pursuit of culinary innovation and excellence. Jade is a fantastic role model for those chefs who are starting a career in hospitality.
Well done Jade on achieving another thoroughly deserved accolade that celebrates your accomplishments!
